Fablehaven Book 1

To start off this book feels like a superhero movie. An ordinary person (or in this case people) change and start to get used to their "powers." There's a common enemy that is then defeated and everything ends on a happy note. It doesn't take a genius to figure out there were many sequels planned (there were 4!). But past the generic set up the book was actually pretty good.

The book starts off with 2 kids Kendra and Seth. Kendra's the responsible straight-A older sister while Seth is the irresponsible crazy younger brother. This dynamic has been done many times but Brandon is able to make it unique somehow. It feels nice like the siblings dislike each other but still love each other. Their parents are going on vacation for the summer so they're taken to their grandparent's house until they come back. The grandpa is there but the grandma isn't as she's traveling the world. Gradually Kendra and Seth feel something weird is going on. The grandparents caretaker Dale has cows and these cows produce a "special milk filled with bacteria" so it shouldn't be drunk. Naturally, Seth drinks it and when Seth drinks it he can see fairies. Now if I keep on going at this rate I'm going to spoil it but I'm sure you catch my Tokyo drift with the plot as Kendra and Seth discover the world of Fablehaven.

The plot of this book is good but has been done with many other books before like Narnia with kids discovering a "new world". But it makes up for it in the uniqueness of the world itself. There were so many openings for it to be explored that you just wanted to learn more. Also, the character reactions between Kendra and Seth were not great but not average. It was a good medium I'd say. But overall, I'd give this book 3 Rowlings however, I'm sure the older books will be better as this was just an introduction to the world of Fablehaven. If you'd like give me a request for a book for me to review send it to my email SiahLegend@gmail.com.

I await your Fablehaven...
